The quickest way to reach Antarctica and come back. You leave from Ushuaia, in Argentine Tierra del Fuego, on an icebreaker expedition ship: the Beagle Channel, Cape Horn and then the crossing of the Drake Passage, with lectures and briefings on board and albatrosses following the ship.
On the Antarctic Peninsula you go ashore by zodiac with the expedition guides, among glaciers, icebergs and penguin colonies. The return does not cross the Drake again by sea: from King George Island, in the South Shetlands, a flight takes you to Punta Arenas, in Chile, where you spend one night.
Expedition cruise on a shared ship, sold by cabin, on full board with drinks at meals; flight from King George to Punta Arenas and one hotel night included.
Day by day
6 days in the programme
The city at the end of the world. Arrival in Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, and embarkation on the expedition ship. The voyage begins along the Beagle Channel.
Heading south. Sailing south, past Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America, and into the Drake Passage.
On the open sea. A day at sea crossing the Drake. On board, lectures and landing briefings; from the deck you watch albatrosses and, at times, whales.
The white continent. Arrival at the Antarctic Peninsula. Zodiac landings with the guides, among glaciers, icebergs and penguin colonies, depending on weather and ice.
The flight back. Disembarkation on King George Island, in the South Shetlands, and BAe 146 flight over the Drake to Punta Arenas, in Chile. Transfer to the hotel.
End of the trip. Breakfast and transfer to Punta Arenas airport.
