It starts in Bogotá, at 2,600 metres, with the colonial Candelaria district and the Gold Museum, and in Zipaquirá, where a cathedral is carved inside a salt mine. Then the Andean south: Popayán, the white city, and San Agustín, with the stone statues of a pre-Columbian civilisation, a UNESCO site.
From Bogotá you head to La Macarena for Caño Cristales, the river that in season turns red, yellow and green thanks to the aquatic plants on its bed. The last part is on the Caribbean coast and along the Magdalena River: Santa Marta, colonial Mompox, frozen in time, and Cartagena de Indias, enclosed within its walls.

Welcome to Colombia. Flight from Italy to Bogotá, on the Andean plateau at 2,600 metres. Transfer to the hotel.
The capital. A city tour with your guide: the colonial Candelaria district, Plaza Bolívar and the Gold Museum, with artefacts from the country's pre-Hispanic cultures.
The salt cathedral. An excursion to Zipaquirá, north of Bogotá, for the salt cathedral carved into the tunnels of a mine. A walk through the colonial centre and return to Bogotá.
The white city. Transfer to Popayán, in the south of the country, with its colonial centre of whitewashed houses.
Churches and volcanoes. A visit to the historic centre, among churches, convents and squares. An optional excursion to Puracé Natural Park, with views of the volcano of the same name.
Across the Andes. Transfer to San Agustín through the mountains, among green landscapes and deep valleys.
The stone statues. A visit to San Agustín Archaeological Park, a UNESCO site, with the great statues and tombs of a pre-Columbian civilisation that is still partly a mystery.
Back to the capital. Transfer to Bogotá and the rest of the day at leisure.
To Caño Cristales. Transfer to La Macarena, the village that is the starting point for Caño Cristales.
The river of five colours. A day at Caño Cristales with a local guide. In season the aquatic plants on the riverbed turn red, yellow and green.
Along the river. A second day along other stretches of the river, among pools, small waterfalls and the Macarena savannah.
On the Caribbean coast. Transfer to Santa Marta, the oldest city in Colombia, on the Caribbean Sea. A walk along the seafront and through the historic centre.
On the Magdalena River. Transfer to Santa Cruz de Mompox, a colonial town on the Magdalena River.
A town frozen in time. A visit to the historic centre, a UNESCO site and once a river port between the coast and the interior: churches, colonial houses and silver filigree workshops.
To the walled city. Transfer to Cartagena de Indias, on the Caribbean coast.
The walled city. A day to discover the walled city, among squares, flower-filled balconies and colonial churches, the Getsemaní district and San Felipe castle.
Flight home. Flight to Bogotá to connect with your flight home to Italy. Night on board.
End of the trip. Arrival in Italy.
