Request informationWhen it is summer in Italy, Argentina is skiing. The trip starts in Buenos Aires, with a half-day tour with an Italian-speaking local guide, then a domestic flight takes you to the snow.
There are three destinations to choose from. Bariloche, on Lake Nahuel Huapi, with Cerro Catedral, the largest ski area in South America. Ushuaia, at the end of the world, with Cerro Castor and slopes overlooking the mountains of Tierra del Fuego. Or San Martín de los Andes, a small town on Lake Lácar, with the slopes of Chapelco and views of Lanín volcano.
After eight nights in the mountains you return to Buenos Aires for a final evening.
Individual trip with domestic flights, transfers and a Buenos Aires tour included; flights from Italy, ski pass and equipment not included.
12 days in the programme
Welcome to Argentina. Arrival at Buenos Aires airport and transfer to the hotel. Free time for a first look at the city.
City tour. A half-day tour with an Italian-speaking local guide, around Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada, San Telmo, La Boca and Recoleta. Free afternoon.
To the slopes. Transfer to the airport and domestic flight to your chosen resort: Bariloche, Ushuaia or San Martín de los Andes. Transfer to the hotel and check-in.
First ski day. Your first day on the snow: Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Cerro Castor in Ushuaia or Chapelco in San Martín de los Andes. The morning for ski passes and equipment, then the first runs to get to know the slopes.
Snow and views. A ski day. From Cerro Catedral you ski with Lake Nahuel Huapi below you, from Chapelco you see the snowy cone of Lanín volcano, from Cerro Castor the view sweeps over the mountains of Tierra del Fuego.
Rest day. A day off skiing to explore the area. In Bariloche, the Circuito Chico among lakes and forests and the chocolate shops in town; in Ushuaia, the harbour and the Presidio Museum, the old prison; in San Martín, a walk along the shores of Lake Lácar.
New sectors. Another day up the mountain, exploring the quieter sectors of the ski area. Experienced skiers can hire a local guide on site for off-piste skiing.
A different day. An alternative day, arranged locally: in Ushuaia, dog sledding or snowshoeing in the Tierra Mayor valley; in Bariloche, the trip up Cerro Otto or Cerro Campanario for views over the lakes; in San Martín, the Seven Lakes Road, if open.
Skiing and Patagonian food. A ski day. In the evening, Patagonian food: spit-roasted lamb, lake trout and wild berries.
Last ski day. Your last day on the snow, to return to your favourite runs before leaving.
Back to the city. Transfer to the airport and flight to Buenos Aires. Transfer to the hotel and a free evening, perhaps at a milonga.
End of the trip. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
