Request informationA tour of Portugal with set stops and your time managed by you. It starts with two days in Lisbon, among Belém, the Alfama and the viewpoints over the Tagus, then heads north via Fatima, one of Europe's great Marian shrines.
Porto has its old town on the Douro river and, on the opposite bank, the port wine lodges. Heading back south you reach Coimbra, with its ancient university, and the Alentejo interior: Marvão, a walled village on top of a crag near the Spanish border, and Évora, a Roman and medieval city and UNESCO site.

10 days in the programme
The capital on the Tagus. Arrival in Lisbon and check-in at the hotel. A first stroll through the Baixa and Praça do Comércio, overlooking the river.
Belém and the Alfama. A day for the city: in Belém, the Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower and the Coach Museum, then the Alfama and São Jorge Castle. In the evening, dinner in the Bairro Alto or a fado house.
The shrine. Car pick-up and departure northwards, with a possible stop in the walled town of Óbidos. Arrival in Fatima and a visit to the shrine, a destination for pilgrims from all over the world.
To the Douro. A possible stop at Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO site, a few kilometres from Fatima. On to Porto and a first walk in the Ribeira district, on the river.
The old town and port wine. A day in Porto: the Palácio da Bolsa, São Francisco church, São Bento station with its azulejos. In the afternoon, across the river, a visit to a port wine lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, or a cruise on the Douro.
The university city. Departure southwards to Coimbra, Portugal's old capital. A visit to the university, one of the oldest in Europe, with the Joanina Library, and a walk through the old town.
The village on the crag. A drive inland, to the Alentejo and the Spanish border. Marvão is a walled village on top of a granite crag: from its castle the view stretches for miles.
The museum city. On through the Alentejo, among cork oaks and olive groves, with a possible stop in Estremoz. Arrival in Évora, a UNESCO site: the Roman temple, the cathedral and the Chapel of Bones.
Back to the capital. Return to Lisbon and car drop-off. A free afternoon for last shopping or a district still to discover, such as the Parque das Nações or LX Factory.
End of the trip. Free time until departure.
