Request informationA short, rich journey through Bulgarian history. In Sofia you start with the medieval frescoes of Boyana church, a UNESCO site, and the National Museum of History. Then you climb into the mountains to Rila Monastery, the spiritual heart of the country.
Plovdiv, European Capital of Culture in 2019, preserves the Roman theatre of ancient Philippopolis and an old town of colourful houses. In the Kazanlak valley, the valley of roses, you visit the Thracian tombs, then Koprivshtitsa, a museum town of the Bulgarian National Revival, and Kremikovtsi monastery.

Boyana and the History Museum. Arrival in Sofia and meeting with your guide. A visit to Boyana church, a UNESCO site, with its medieval frescoes, and the National Museum of History.
Rila Monastery. By minibus into the mountains to Rila Monastery, a UNESCO site, with its frescoed church and great galleries. On to Plovdiv.
Ancient Philippopolis and the Thracians. A tour of Plovdiv: the Roman theatre, the stadium and the old town with its National Revival houses. In the afternoon, the Kazanlak valley and its Thracian tombs, a UNESCO site.
Koprivshtitsa and Kremikovtsi. A visit to Koprivshtitsa, a museum town of colourful 19th-century houses. Then Kremikovtsi monastery, known for its frescoes, and arrival in Sofia.
The historic centre. A morning in central Sofia, from Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to the church of St Sofia. Transfer to the airport.
