Request informationA journey from the capital to the highest valleys of the Caucasus. Tbilisi, with its wooden-balconied houses and ancient churches, then Mtskheta, Georgia's holy city, and the military road towards Mount Kazbek, climbed by 4x4.
In the centre of the country, two towns carved into the rock: Uplistsikhe, among the oldest settlements in the Caucasus, and Vardzia, with its cave monasteries. From Kutaisi you head up into Svaneti: Mestia with its medieval towers and, by 4x4, Ushguli, a UNESCO village at the foot of Mount Shkhara, the country's highest peak.
On two days lunch is at home with Georgian families.

9 days in the programme
To the Caucasus. Turkish Airlines scheduled flight from Milan Malpensa to Tbilisi. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.
A crossroads of cultures. A day with your guide in the old town, among wooden-balconied houses, Metekhi church on its cliff and the 6th-century Anchiskhati basilica. Then Narikala fortress and the sulphur baths district.
The holy city and the mountain. Mtskheta, the ancient capital and spiritual centre of the country, with Svetitskhoveli cathedral and Jvari monastery. Up the Georgian Military Road towards Mount Kazbek and, by 4x4, to Gergeti Trinity church.
The town in the rock. A visit to Uplistsikhe, a town carved into the rock and among the oldest settlements in the Caucasus. On to Akhaltsikhe.
Cave monasteries. A visit to Vardzia, the complex of caves and monasteries carved into the mountain in the 12th century. Then transfer to Kutaisi.
In the heart of Svaneti. Up into the Greater Caucasus, to the Svaneti region. Arrival in Mestia, with the medieval towers of Svan families and the ethnographic museum.
Towers at the foot of Shkhara. A 4x4 excursion to Ushguli, a UNESCO village made up of four clusters of houses and towers, at the foot of Mount Shkhara. Back to Mestia.
Last evening in Georgia. Down to Kutaisi and a visit to the city, with Bagrati cathedral and Gelati monastery. Back to Tbilisi for the last evening.
End of the trip. Transfer to the airport and Turkish Airlines flight to Italy.
