You stay in Funchal, the capital, throughout, and set out each day with your guide: the old town with its cathedral, blending Gothic and Moorish influences, and the Lavradores market with its tropical fruit and spices.
The excursions cover the whole island: Câmara de Lobos, the fishing village painted by Churchill, the west coast to the lava pools of Porto Moniz, the thatched houses of Santana, the headland of Ponta de São Lourenço, Monte and the Eira do Serrado viewpoint over the Curral das Freiras valley.
One day is for Porto Santo, a small island with a long beach of pale sand, where Christopher Columbus lived before his voyage to the New World.

Welcome to Madeira. Arrival in Madeira and check-in at your hotel in Funchal. Free time on the seafront.
The cathedral and the market. A guided visit to the old town: the cathedral, where European Gothic blends with Moorish style, the streets of the old quarter and the Lavradores market, with its stalls of tropical fruit, spices and flowers.
From Câmara de Lobos to Porto Moniz. An excursion west: Câmara de Lobos, the fishing village loved by Churchill, Ribeira Brava and the coast to Porto Moniz, with its natural lava pools and the small fort of São João Baptista. Return to Funchal.
The north and the eastern tip. An excursion to Santana, with its traditional triangular thatched houses, then to the island's eastern tip, the rugged, windswept headland of Ponta de São Lourenço. Return to Funchal.
Columbus's island. Crossing to Porto Santo, an islet of 42 km² with a long beach of pale sand and still wild nature. Christopher Columbus lived here for a long time, studying the winds and the route to the New World. Return to Funchal.
Above Funchal. Up to Monte, in the hills above the city, with its church and gardens. On to the Eira do Serrado viewpoint, high above the Curral das Freiras valley, enclosed by mountains. Return to Funchal.
