Request informationA loop that starts and ends in Paris. You pick up the car, stop at Versailles and head for Normandy: Caen, Bayeux with its 11th-century tapestry and a full day on the D-Day beaches.
Then the coast: Deauville and Trouville, the old harbour of Honfleur, Le Havre, rebuilt after the war and a UNESCO site, and the white cliffs of Étretat. The way back passes through Rouen, with its half-timbered houses and the cathedral Monet painted, and Giverny, where the painter lived and created his garden.
The stages are a starting point: they can be lengthened, dropped or changed.

8 days in the programme
On the road. Arrival in Paris and car pick-up. First stop at Versailles, for the palace and its gardens.
Caen and the tapestry. Leaving the Paris area for Normandy. A stop in Caen, with William the Conqueror's castle, and arrival in Bayeux, home of the embroidered 11th-century tapestry.
A day of history. From Bayeux, a day on the 1944 landing beaches: Omaha Beach, the American cemetery at Colleville and Pointe du Hoc. Back to Bayeux.
The Côte Fleurie. Following the coast east: the seaside resorts of Deauville and Trouville, then Honfleur, with its old harbour and tall houses facing the water.
Architecture and cliffs. Le Havre, rebuilt by Auguste Perret after the war and a UNESCO site. Then the white cliffs of Étretat, with their rock arches over the sea.
The old Norman capital. Drive to Rouen. The medieval centre with its half-timbered houses, the Gothic cathedral painted by Monet and the square where Joan of Arc was burned.
In Monet's footsteps. On to Giverny for Claude Monet's house and the garden with the water-lily pond that inspired so many of his paintings.
End of the trip. Drive back via Versailles to Paris and return the car.
