Overview

Maya and colonial Guatemala, with a crossing into Honduras. It starts with Copán, famous for its stelae and the Hieroglyphic Stairway, then Quiriguá, with the tallest stelae in the Maya world, and the Río Dulce, to travel by boat down to Livingston, on the Caribbean coast, home of the Garifuna community.

From Flores you visit Tikal, the great Maya city in the Petén jungle, with temples rising above the trees. A flight takes you back to the capital.

In the highlands there is Chichicastenango market, then Lake Atitlán between three volcanoes, with the village of San Juan la Laguna, and finally Antigua, the old colonial capital, with baroque churches and cobbled streets.

A private trip with a driver and an Italian-speaking local guide, domestic flight included.
