In Baku, the old town, a UNESCO site, with the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, alongside the Flame Towers and the Heydar Aliyev Center designed by Zaha Hadid. On the Absheron peninsula, the Zoroastrian fire temple of Ateshgah and the eternal flames of Yanar Dag.
Then the Caucasus mountains: the Shamakhi mosque, the coppersmiths' village of Lahij, Qabala, Sheki with its Khan's Palace and the Albanian church of Kish, one of the oldest in the region. On the way back, the prehistoric petroglyphs and mud volcanoes of Qobustan.
It ends with a flight to Nakhchivan, an autonomous republic isolated between Armenia, Iran and Turkey, with the town of Ordubad and the fortress of Alinja.
9 days in the programme
On the Caspian Sea. Departure from Italy on a flight to Baku. On arrival, meeting with your guide and transfer to the hotel.
Between tradition and modernity. The old town with the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the caravanserais, then the seafront and the Flame Towers lit up at night.
The land of fire. The Heydar Aliyev Center, then the Absheron peninsula: the Ateshgah fire temple and the hill of Yanar Dag, where flames burst from the rock.
Into the Caucasus. The Friday Mosque of Shamakhi, the mountain village of Lahij with its coppersmiths' workshops and arrival in Qabala.
The Khan's Palace. In Sheki, the Khan's Palace, with its coloured glass windows, and the caravanserai. Then the Albanian church of Kish, one of the oldest in the Caucasus.
Petroglyphs and mud volcanoes. The Albanian church in the village of Nij, then Qobustan, with its prehistoric petroglyphs and mud volcanoes. Return to Baku.
The place of the first descent. Flight to Nakhchivan, the land that tradition links to Noah's Ark. A visit to the city and the Momine Khatun Mausoleum.
The mountain fortress. The town of Ordubad, with its old houses, and the climb to Alinja fortress.
End of the trip. Transfer to the airport and flight back to Italy.
