Request informationThe Sri Lanka of ancient capitals and hills. From Colombo you head into the Cultural Triangle: the monastic ruins in the Ritigala forest, Anuradhapura with its great stupas, Polonnaruwa and the Sigiriya rock, the fortress King Kasyapa built in the 5th century on top of a monolith almost 200 metres high.
In Kandy you tour the city by tuk-tuk and visit the Temple of the Tooth, home to the island's holiest relic. Then by train to Nuwara Eliya, "Little England", among tea plantations as far as the eye can see.
You travel by private car with an Italian-speaking driver-guide, with flights from Italy included.
8 days in the programme
Welcome to Sri Lanka. Arrival in Colombo on your flight from Italy, meeting with your driver-guide and transfer to the hotel.
To the Cultural Triangle. A drive to the centre of the island, to Dambulla.
Monasteries in the forest. The ruins of the Ritigala monastery, hidden in the forest, and Anuradhapura, the first capital, with its great stupas and the sacred Bodhi tree. Return to Dambulla.
The king's rock. A visit to Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital, then the climb up the Sigiriya rock, with its maiden frescoes and the view from the top. Return to Dambulla.
The Temple of the Tooth. The Dambulla cave temple, then Kandy: a tuk-tuk tour of the city and a visit to the Temple of the Tooth.
The tea train. By train through the hills to Nuwara Eliya, "Little England". A visit to a tea plantation and factory.
Back to the coast. Return to Colombo and a city tour, between the colonial Fort district and Pettah market.
End of the trip. Transfer to the airport and flight back to Italy.
