The granite peaks of Spitzkoppe and the Erongo Mountains, the rock engravings of Twyfelfontein in Damaraland, the seal colony at Cape Cross on the Skeleton Coast and Swakopmund, where the desert meets the sea.
From Walvis Bay you drive by 4x4 to Sandwich Harbour, where the Namib dunes drop straight into the Atlantic. Then the heart of the desert: the ochre dunes of Sossusvlei, the dead trees of Deadvlei and the Sesriem Canyon.
The last part is a complete change of scene: a flight takes you to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where the Zambezi plunges over a front almost two kilometres wide, raising clouds of spray visible from far away.
12 days in the programme
Overnight flight to Namibia. Departure from Italy on a scheduled connecting flight to Windhoek. Night on board.
Arrival and the first savannah. Arrival in Windhoek, meeting with your guide and departure towards the inland plains. Overnight at a lodge.
The granite mountains. A stop at the Okahandja craft market, then Spitzkoppe, the "Matterhorn of Namibia", with its rock arches. Overnight in the Erongo Mountains area.
Rock art in the desert. You enter Damaraland, a land of red plateaus. At Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO site, one of the largest concentrations of rock engravings in Africa.
Seals and the Skeleton Coast. You head down to the Atlantic coast and Cape Cross, home to a large colony of Cape fur seals. Then along the Skeleton Coast to Swakopmund.
Where the dunes meet the ocean. From Walvis Bay, a 4x4 excursion to Sandwich Harbour, among bird-filled lagoons and towering dunes that run down to the sea, with a light lunch. In the afternoon, inland into the Namib Desert.
The heart of the desert. A sunrise start for the ochre dunes of Sossusvlei. A walk to Deadvlei, the white pan with its centuries-old dead trees, then the Sesriem Canyon, carved into the rock by the Tsauchab River.
Across the highlands. You leave the desert and climb back to Windhoek over the passes of the central highlands. Last evening in Namibia.
To Zimbabwe, on the Zambezi. Flight from Windhoek to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Transfer to the hotel and free time. From town you can already hear the roar of the falls.
The smoke that thunders. A guided visit to the falls, along the path that runs opposite the gorge, with viewpoints over the Zambezi plunging more than a hundred metres. Free afternoon.
Farewell to Africa. Transfer to Victoria Falls airport and connecting flight home. Night on board.
End of the trip. Arrival in Italy.
