Overview

Senegal in a full circuit, with a private Italian-speaking guide. It starts in Dakar with Gorée, the island the slave ships sailed from, now a UNESCO site, and Lake Retba, the Pink Lake, where salt is still harvested by hand.

In the north, Saint-Louis, the old colonial capital on an island at the mouth of the Senegal River, is explored by horse-drawn carriage. From here you visit Djoudj National Park, one of West Africa's great wetlands for migratory birds.

Then south, via Touba, the holy city of the Mouride brotherhood, to Palmarin, among the lagoons, palms and mangroves of the Sine Saloum delta. The last stretch takes in Fadiouth, the island made of shells linked to the mainland by a wooden bridge, and the Bandia reserve with giraffes, rhinos and baobabs.
