Request informationA classic safari in northern Tanzania, built around the parks that made East Africa famous. It starts in Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru, and heads straight into the wild at Lake Manyara. Then come the endless plains of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and, to finish, the baobabs and elephants of Tarangire.
The Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Depending on the month, the Serengeti may put you on the path of the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. The crater, an ancient volcanic caldera, holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, including the rare black rhino.
You travel by 4x4 with a driver-guide who knows the parks and the habits of the animals, only with the people you chose, from 2 to 6. The itinerary is a starting point: we can add nights in the Serengeti, choose between lodges and tented camps, and finish with a few days on the beach in Zanzibar.
8 days in the programme
Arrival in Tanzania and first night in Arusha. Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our local representative meets you for the transfer to Arusha, about an hour's drive away. Arusha is the gateway to the northern parks: check in at your hotel and enjoy a quiet evening after the flight.
A day to settle in between Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. A day to settle in before the safari. Arusha lies between Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro, among green hills and coffee farms. On request we can arrange a coffee farm visit, a walk through the town market or an excursion to the small Arusha National Park.
First game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Leaving Arusha, the road leads to Lake Manyara National Park, at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment. It is a small park with a lot of variety: forest, savannah, swamps and the lake itself, where flamingos and pelicans often gather. This is the first game drive of the trip, with a good chance of seeing elephants, baboons, hippos, wildebeest and zebra.
Across the Ngorongoro highlands to the Serengeti. The road climbs over the Ngorongoro highlands and drops down to the plains of the Serengeti, the most famous park in East Africa. The drive is already part of the safari: once inside the park, the first game drive continues across the plains until evening.
Game drives from dawn to dusk in the Serengeti. A full day of game drives in the Serengeti, starting early in the morning when the animals are most active. Lions, cheetahs, giraffes and elephants live here all year round. The Great Migration moves through the park throughout the year: more than a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra, one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. Before you travel, we tell you where the herds are likely to be during your dates.
Descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. A last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then back towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for the descent into the crater. Formed when an ancient volcano collapsed, it is about 600 metres deep and its floor holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa: lions, hyenas, buffalo, elephants and one of the few black rhino populations still easy to spot in Tanzania.
Elephants and baobabs in Tarangire. Transfer to Tarangire National Park, known for its ancient baobabs and large herds of elephants. In the dry season, from June to October, the animals gather along the Tarangire River, the only permanent source of water in the area, which makes it the best time to see them.
Final game drive and flight home. A final game drive in Tarangire, then the transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home. Depending on the flight schedule, you arrive back in Italy the following day.
